PINE LAWN * Police have arrested a man whom they say opened fire Friday on three young siblings he knew from his neighborhood as they played on their patio. The incident led to a high-speed pursuit involving suspects unrelated to the shooting.

Pine Lawn police received a call for shots fired about 9:30 p.m. along the 3700 block of Manola Avenue. Within two minutes, officers arrived and found an 8-year-old boy with a gunshot wound that was not life-threatening; his 4-year-old brother with a graze wound; and an uninjured 12-year-old boy, said Pine Lawn Sgt. Steven Blakeney.

The 4-year-old was treated at the scene and the 8-year-old was taken to a hospital,Blakeney said.

Officers were setting up a perimeter around the scene when a 2013 Hyundai broke through the barriers. A police helicopter already overhead then locked on to the car. Police pursued the vehicle, believing it could be related to the shooting,Blakeney said.

Officers from Northwoods joined in the 15-minute chase at speeds of 100 mph along Interstate 70. …
