Hombs, RogerDied at home in Alexandria, Virginia, on September 14, 2013. He was a devoted husband, father, and public servant, and a man of faith. He believed in compassion for others and exhibited modesty despite his many accomplishments. He was the younger son of the late Walter and Martha Hombs and younger brother of Dr. Addison Hombs, who predeceased him. He grew up in St. Louis, where he graduated from Grover Cleveland High School and Washington University School of Dentistry in 1945. He was the first person in his family to graduate from college. He was honored in 1971 by Washington University as a Founders Day Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient. He served in the U.S. Army until 1949 when the U. S. Air Force established an independent medical corps. His experiences in St. Louis in private practice, in clinical work, and teaching at Washington University were valuable assets for expanding and establishing new treatment settings post-war. …
