Gabbert will start for Jaguars

Blaine Gabbert is back under center for the winless Jacksonville Jaguars. Gabbert, who missed the team's last two games after slicing open the back of his throwing hand, is set to start Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.

"We feel good about him going into this week," coach Gus Bradley said Monday.

Gabbert needed 15 stitches to close the wound, which he opened when his hand got caught on a defender's facemask late in the season opener against Kansas City. He had the final few stitches removed before the team lost 45-17 in Seattle.

The former University of Missouri and Parkway West High standout, the 10th pick in the 2011 draft, has missed 10 of the team's last 13 games. He missed the final six games last season because of a right forearm injury. He also had a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder. He sat out two exhibition games because of a broken right thumb. And then he gashed his hand in the opener and missed two games on the West Coast.

Bradley wasted little time switching back to Gabbert from Chad Henne, who has one touchdown pass and two interceptions off the bench.

Several players out for year * The Bears have lost starting defensive tackle Henry Melton for the season because of a torn knee ligament that he suffered while playing Sunday.

* The Bills put Alex Carrington on season-ending injured reserve after the starting defensive end tore his left thigh muscle while playing Sunday.

* Cardinals starting outside linebackers Sam Acho and Lorenzo Alexander are out for the season with injuries sustained Sunday. Acho has a broken leg and Alexander a foot ailment.

Players in incidents * Baltimore receiver Jacoby Jones is doing well after being involved in an altercation on a chartered bus in which he reportedly was hit in the head with a bottle by a woman.
