WAYNE - Pascack Valley wanted another shot at Tenafly. The Indians got that opportunity Wednesday night at the Ice Vault and used it to erase the memories of what had been a dominating run by the Tigers.

Joe Mazzone's goal at the 7:41 mark of overtime propelled the Indians to a 5-4 victory over the top-seeded Tigers.

It put Pascack Valley into Friday's Big North Gold title game against third-seeded and defending champion Ridgewood. It also marked the first time in four tries this season that the Indians were able to get by Tenafly.

"I have no words," said Mazzone, a senior who has been on the short end against Tenafly for much longer than this season. "We haven't beaten them since I was a freshman.

"I got the puck there [at the top of the right circle], and to be honest, everything slows down. You don't want to mess up. Everything was in slow motion and you just hope to make the best play that you can."

It certainly appeared as if the Indians were headed for another heartbreaking loss as time wound down in regulation. Tenafly held a 4-2 lead but Pascack Valley scored twice in the final 1:18 to send the game into the extra session. Steve Miller completed his hat trick to cut the score to 4-3 before Jesse Karmin banged home the tying goal on the power play with 7.4 seconds remaining.

Tenafly was called for a delay-of-game with 18 seconds remaining to give the Indians the man-advantage. Still, Tenafly appeared to have won the game after winning the faceoff, but Pascack Valley defenseman Devon Palmieri made a spectacular diving stop to keep the puck in the zone, which led to Karmin's goal.

"That delay-of-game was tough," Tenafly coach Andy Escala said. "You know what, though, we won the faceoff and did exactly what we wanted to do. We went to clear the puck and Palmieri kept it in.

"If he doesn't slide there from center point, the game is over. …
