Devils Targeting a Return for Zajac

NEWARK - Devils center Travis Zajac moved closer to returning to the lineup by participating in the team's morning skate Thursday.

Zajac, who has been limited to eight games this season and hasn't played since Jan. 2 because of a sore left Achilles' tendon, was examined by the doctor in Winnipeg last weekend and received medical clearance to begin practicing with full contact.

Zajac expects to practice with the Devils today and anticipates playing before the end of the regular season, but the team is still being vague about when.

"That's the plan," Zajac said of playing before the playoffs. "There's no date. We'll talk with the doctors every week and go from there. There's no set date. We'll take it a day at a time here. The key for me is getting in good practices when the team does practice and trying to get in some game-like situations. This is the toughest time of the year."
