Susan Mcginley Spohn, Official in 2 Towns, Dies

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS -- Susan McGinley Spohn, the borough's administrator and a former mayor of Palisades Park, died suddenly at Holy Name Hospital on Tuesday.

Mayor Joseph Parisi Jr. said he was shocked to hear of her death.

"It's devastating," he said. "Our hearts and prayers go out to her family."

Spohn, 56, of Palisades Park, was a breast cancer survivor. She was being treated for cancer at the time of her death.

At its March 14 meeting, the Borough Council had approved a medical leave of absence for Spohn, who also served as borough clerk. She was expected to take leave this week and be out for at least six weeks, but unexpectedly went out last week, Parisi said.

"It's really a shame," Parisi said. "Unfortunately, I didn't get to know Susan well, but during the short period of time she worked here, I know she was a good person."

Spohn was a longtime Republican Palisades Park councilwoman and was the council's president for nearly a decade before being appointed mayor in 1995 to fill a vacancy. …
