If Nets Don't Win They'll Lose Their Appeal

Now that the Nets officially have moved to Brooklyn, it's easier than ever to find Nets gear in New Jersey.

Not old Nets gear on clearance. Rather the brand-new, black-and- white product that has been the talk of NBA merchandising since the Nets released their new identity. It's all over New Jersey sporting goods stores.

New Jersey Nets fans shouldn't take this personally. It's just a demand thing. By moving to Brooklyn and changing their logo, the Nets have something they haven't had in a long, long time: appeal.

They've also got the numbers to prove it.

Since the team's new identity debuted Monday, the Nets have been the top seller of all NBA teams at NBAStore.com and at the flagship NBA Store in New York, according to the Nets. Meanwhile, merchandise sales through the team's website have already doubled the team's numbers for the entire 2010-11 season - in three days.

"The interest in our brand identity launch has dramatically exceeded our expectations," said Nets CEO Brett Yormark. …
