OLD TAPPAN -- Jorrdin Miller knew she had to find some way to help create a run. So she figured she would do it with her knowledge of the strike zone and her speed on the base paths.

Miller worked out a walk to open the bottom of the eighth, then stole second and alertly moved up to third on an infield miscommunication. She scored on an error to give Immaculate Conception a 2-1 victory over Bergen Tech on Saturday in the Bergen County softball tournament second round.

The sixth-seeded Blue Wolves (20-4) advance to the quarterfinals to play third-seeded Paramus Saturday. A game Bergen Tech team, the 11th seed, fell to 15-9 with the loss.

"I just wanted somehow to reach first, from there I had confidence that my teammates would bring me around," said Miller (1- for-2, RBI, two walks, run), a senior shortstop and four-year starter from Garfield.

Senior right-hander Kelly Hage (11-2) threw a nifty, complete- game two-hitter for Immaculate Conception, striking out seven and walking four. …
