Edgewater Seeking Bidders to Remove Marina Sediment

Edgewater -- The borough will reopen bidding on the Edgewater Marina dredge project after its first attempt to find contractors to remove silt from the Hudson River found no takers.

The New Jersey side of the river faces a continual buildup of sediment and mud in its jetties and coves, making it difficult for boats to navigate the marina's waters. Dredging vacuums the silt off the riverbed, transports it by pipe to a barge and ships it out to a licensed disposal facility.

Edgewater purchased its own $404,000 dredge machine in December but is seeking someone to provide the barge and take care of the ultimate discarding of material.

On May 18, the borough's bid opening failed to garner any submissions despite seven prospective vendors picking up bid packages. Borough Administrator Greg Franz asked the Borough Council to consider authorizing another bid opening and "We're hopeful," of a better outcome, said Franz.
