When he came home from his freshman year at Cornell two weeks ago, Stephen Mozia went to the Bergen County Courthouse to get his passport renewed.

"I thought I might need it before the summer was over," said the former Hackensack High School star.

Right move.

Mozia will travel to Barcelona, Spain next month for his first international competition after winning the shot put at the United States Junior Nationals at the University of Indiana in Bloomington, Ind., on Saturday.

Mozia threw the six-kilogram junior implement ( approximately 13.2 pounds), 66 feet 3 1/4 inches to easily win the event and qualify to represent the United States at the World Junior Championships at the site of the 1992 Summer Olympics.

"I don't expect to win any meet, but I knew I had a good chance to win this," said Mozia, who will throw the discus at today's final day of competition. "I really didn't throw that well today because none of my throws were really good throws except for the last one that I fouled at about 22 meters (about 71 feet). …
