Indictment Names Coach on Sex Counts

Lyndhurst High School's suspended head football coach has been indicted on charges that he maintained a sexual relationship with a senior at the school in 2009 and 2010.

Scott Rubinetti, 39, of Nutley was arrested earlier this year after a teacher at the school informed the superintendent that Rubinetti was having an affair with a student, Bergen County prosecutors said.

Authorities were later contacted and spoke to the former student, who confirmed the relationship, they said.

Rubinetti also contacted the student during the investigation and asked her to lie to detectives about the relationship, prosecutors said.

The five-count indictment returned by a Bergen County grand jury charges Rubinetti with two counts of child endangerment and one count each of official misconduct, sexual assault and witness tampering.

If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison, followed by lifelong parole and registration requirements under Megan's Law.

Rubinetti, who also taught health and physical fitness classes, remains suspended from the school and has been free on bail since his arrest. …
