CLOSTER -- Hidden treasures buried in the attics, basements and the nooks and crannies of homes in the borough will soon be put on display to exhibit Closter's history.

Irene Stella, vice chairwoman for the Historic Preservation Committee, told the mayor and council that she is receiving a donation of five or six professional showcases to place around the borough.

"[Historic Committee members] cataloged and archived a lot of materials that were floating around at different historic society and commission members' homes," Stella said at a recent council meeting. "And they were lamenting about the fact that [the items] were getting boxed up and they would be put again in somebody's attic."

To honor and share these items with the public, the historic committee discussed creating a rotating display that would change two to three times a year with artifacts found in the borough.

"The artifacts are not super valuable, just charming things that people in town have donated to the historic society, like cheerleaders' uniforms and photographs of the Fire Department years ago," Stella said. …
