A 20-year-old Passaic man was arraigned on Tuesday on murder and weapons charges for his alleged role in the fatal shooting of a driver who was sitting in a parked car in Passaic last week.

Richard Diaz pleaded not guilty to one count of murder, one count of unlawful possession of a weapon and one count of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in the shooting death of Luis Coste- Castillo, 20. Diaz was being held in the Passaic County Jail on $1 million cash bail.

He was also charged as an accomplice in the killing, Passaic County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Neil Cleary said, as was his brother, Victor Diaz, who is being sought by police.

After the arraignment, Cleary said either of the brothers could have been the shooter, but that both were allegedly involved equally. He declined to offer a motive for the shooting.

Each faces a possible 30 years to life in prison if convicted.

Superior Court Judge Greta Gooden Brown in Paterson referred the case to a grand jury for further action. …
