30 New Teachers Welcomed to Tenafly

TENAFLY -- The Rotary Club held its annual luncheon on Thursday to welcome 30 new teachers to the Tenafly schools.

"We want to welcome these new teachers into the community and make them feel a part of it," Rotary Vice President Gerald Kotch said.

Among the new teachers greeted at the event at the Clinton Inn was Kimberly Zodda, a special education teacher at Tenafly Middle School.

"You get a great sense of community here in Tenafly," Zodda said.

Zodda, who said she was very excited to start the new school year, has an extensive background in special education, having taught in Short Hills, Wyckoff and Haledon.

A new social studies teacher, Melissa Diaz, who has a background in anthropology, said she recently took part in an archaeological excavation of Mayan ruins.

She is a recent graduate student from Rutgers University, and Tenafly High School will be her first teaching assignment.

"Tenafly seems like a wonderful community, everyone is very welcoming," she said. …
