Fort Lee School Trustees Will Publicly Interview 2 Seeking Seat

FORT LEE -- The school board tonight will publicly interview the two candidates seeking to temporarily fill the seat vacated by Arthur Levine.

Candace "Candee" Romba, a former school board member, and Patrick Spina, an attorney, are seeking a three-month appointment, running from October until the board reorganization meeting in early January. They will be interviewed at tonight's board meeting.

Trustees could have chosen to interview the candidates in private but opted for a public forum -- a decision that board President Yusang Park said was never in question.

"Doing it in public was the only right way to do it," Park said. "After all, these two people, they have decided to represent the public."

It is unclear if members of the public will be able to ask questions.

Romba, who served for several months in 2007 after being appointed to a vacant board seat, has taught nursery school and kindergarten in Fort Lee and Ridgefield Park. She served as the Lewis F. Cole Middle School PTA president and vice president of the high school's PTSA, among other community involvements.

Spina, a borough resident since 1991, has a law office in Totowa. …
