Fucci Gets Win No. 200

Cliffside Park coach Jim Fucci reached a big milestone Monday when the Red Raiders blanked Westwood, 7-0, to give him his 200th career victory in his 13th year at the helm.

But he was just as happy to see his young boys soccer team get back on a winning track after a tough 3-0 loss at home to rival River Dell on Friday and with a tough NJIC crossover game against Pascack Hills looming Thursday.

"We're so young," he said after the Raiders improved to 4-2-1. "We possess a good game. But sometimes it clicks and sometimes it doesn't."

Fucci pointed at the River Dell game as a perfect example.

"I thought we possessed the ball for 90 percent of that game," he said. "But we give up a couple of shots and we lost, 3-0."

Cliffside Park has shutout wins over Fort Lee, Dwight Morrow and Westwood, and a 4-1 victory over Ridgefield Park. It has lost to Dumont (1-0) and River Dell and tied Ramsey (1-1).

Jose Pena has six goals, and Nick Rocha has three for the Red Raiders. David Chicara has three assists, backing a defense that has given up six goals in seven games. …
