It may have been the right thing to do and the advice of the doctors to sit out Thursday in Miami and again Saturday in Chicago, but that didn't make it any easier for Carmelo Anthony.

Anthony, hours after suffering a lacerated left middle finger diving into the bench Wednesday night in Charlotte, hopped on the early bus out of the team hotel in Miami, hoping to find a way to play.

Jason Kidd and Tyson Chandler saw him on the bus and knew what he was up to -- and set out to talk him out of it.

"They pulled me up and said [sitting out] was the best thing for me to do," Anthony said. "They know how bad I wanted to play. As we came on the bus, Jason Kidd told me he never saw me on the first bus. I was bored.

"[So for me to] sit out the Miami game as well as [Saturday's] game, I really trust my teammates and feel they're going to take care of business. …
