NORTH ARLINGTON -- A new Democratic councilman has been seated to replace Steve Tanelli, who was elected to a seat on the Bergen County Freeholder Board in November.

The task of filling Tanelli's vacant seat initially was referred to the Democratic Committee of North Arlington, as required by law. The committee put forward three names, and on Thursday the Borough Council unanimously selected Peter Norcia, a facility manager for ISS Worldwide Corp. and a former member of the Lyndhurst Board of Education and the North Arlington planning, zoning and health boards.

"I want to thank the mayor for his support, Freeholder Steve Tanelli for his endorsement ... and all the councilmen that supported my nomination to this position," Norcia, 67, said after being sworn in. "I look forward to serving, following ... in the progress that has already been made in North Arlington and continue that."

Mayor Peter C. Massa welcomed Norcia with an eye toward the projects that lie ahead for the borough.

North Arlington is involved in pending litigation in the effort to reclaim the municipality's water system, which was sold to the Passaic Valley Water Commission in 2004. …
