ELIZABETH -- Mike Boorman was well aware that winning a rematch Saturday against Elizabeth would've been very difficult for the Passaic Tech boys basketball team.

But Boorman wanted to challenge the Bulldogs, so he agreed to participate in the 19th annual Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless Basketball Classic at Dunn Center, Elizabeth's home court. That's where Elizabeth beat Passaic Tech in the Group 4 semifinals 10 1/2 months ago.

Elizabeth brought back all five starters from that team and is a consensus top 10 in New Jersey this season. Passaic Tech lost two standouts from its North 1, Group 4 championship squad to graduation, 6-foot-6 center Shackquiel Scott and guard Aazaad Hinton.

That discrepancy was on full display Saturday.

Elizabeth topped Passaic Tech, 74-44, in the second of three games that composed the charity event. The Patrick School of Elizabeth (formerly St. Patrick) defeated Don Bosco, 78-46, in the first game.

Junior guard Zaheem Beal had 10 points and seven rebounds to lead Passaic Tech (10-7), ranked No. 8 in The Record Top 25. Freshman forward Eric Johnson-Alford scored 10 points off the bench for the Bulldogs as well, but they clearly missed their leader, Isaac Williams. …
