Jericho Recovering as Reward Hits $3,650

CLIFTON -- Jericho, the pit bull found starving and covered in fresh wounds last week, appeared healthier on Tuesday as an Elmwood Park woman offered to add to the reward for tips leading police to whoever abandoned the dog that officials suspect was used as dogfighting "bait."

The reward money for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the dog's former owner rose Tuesday to $3,650, said Mike Spinella, an inspector with the Passaic County Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Investigators continue to look at surveillance video near the Clifton site where the dog was found on March 17, Spinella said.

Since Jericho was rescued, he has gained about 5 pounds and is "on the mend," said Evelyn Ackley, a Friends of the Clifton Animal Shelter volunteer.

The reward for information began with $500 and increased over the past several days through private donations, Spinella said.

Marilyn Ludzki of Elmwood Park, who donated $500 on Tuesday, said she hoped that increasing the reward might persuade others to come forward. …
