Article excerpt

Passaic Tech enjoyed a terrific afternoon at the Randolph Relays last Saturday, winning the Large Schools boys division with three wins, including a meet record 10:37.41 in the distance medley relay.

D'Andre Fernandez, Ken Bucszko, Nigel Burgess and Zak Fouad combined to set that record. Burgess also combined with Lorenzo Burke, Zaire Weaver and Thomas Jefferson to win the 4-x-200 in 1:33.51. Weaver, Travelle Curry and Drew Lindsay combined to win the triple jump with a distance of 121-6 3/4.

Clifton set a meet record in the 4-x-800, as Jeremy Castro, Jeremy Hernandez, Jessie Boria and Dwyer Haliburton combined to run 8:09.46. DePaul won three events in the Small Schools division, taking the shuttle hurdles in 1:10.08, 3-x-400 IH in 3:06.41 and the 4-x-400 in 3:33.13. Marc Wright was on all three teams. Boonton won the small schools long jump, triple jump and pole vault relays and finished second in the team standings behind Delbarton. DePaul was third.

Passaic Tech's Breaisha Morton led all high jumpers at 5-4 and 400 hurdlers by running 63.77.

Eastern Christian won the triple jump and intermediate hurdles relays in the small schools division with Erin Van Lenten having a hand in each win. Jessica Rolanda of West Milford threw a seasonal best 116-5 to lead the Highlanders to a win in the javelin relay.

SPRINTERS SCHOOL RECORD: The Ridgewood 4-x-100 team of juniors Doohee Han, Jamal Locke, Jake Sabatini and senior Kevin Chung set the school record at the Penn Relays, running a speedy 44.03.

POLE VAULT FESTIVAL: Andy Washnik was a longtime volunteer pole vault coach at Park Ridge and a great supporter of the event throughout North Jersey. He died after a battle with cancer last spring and in his memory, the first Andy Washnik Pole Vault Festival will be held Sunday morning at Mahwah High School.

Up to 50 high school vaulters will compete on co-ed relay teams with heights designed to get personal bests. There are still a few openings left. Call Rob Pasek at 201-787-5579 or email him at rpasek@mahwah.k12.nj.us. Entries are $15 and donations are accepted from spectators.

Proceeds will go to fund a scholarship for a Bergen County pole vaulter in Andy's name.

OFF TO THE LEAGUES: Twenty-two divisional titles are up for grabs this week as championships are awarded in the Big North and NJIC divisions. …
