NEW YORK - He spent almost a month in Sin City, a 21-game run the Mets hoped would sand down the bumps in his swing. Now it's time to learn if the tutoring of Ike Davis took hold.

Davis will rejoin the Mets this afternoon in Milwaukee, according to a team source. He will get a chance to show how much improvement Las Vegas manager Wally Backman and hitting coach George Greer were able to infuse into his swing.

After hitting just .161 during his first 55 games with the Mets, Davis was banished to Class AAA Las Vegas in early June. The Mets resisted for a long time, certain Davis would be able to rescue his swing from the gutter.

It never happened. Davis struggled with breaking balls, too tempted to let the bad ones go. His average suffered. His strikeout total ballooned (66 in 55 games).

But in Vegas, Davis showed he still has some life in his bat. …
