D'arnaud to Return

The Mets' Travis d'Arnaud, a promising 24-year-old catcher who has had significant chunks of his past two seasons swallowed by injuries, is expected to return to game action this week, according to general manager Sandy Alderson.

"He's going back to St. Lucie (Fla.) tonight," Alderson said before Monday night's game against the Braves at Citi Field. "And we expect him to be in a Gulf Coast League game probably Wednesday. Spend a minimal amount of time there and then move on."

D'Arnaud fouled a ball off his foot during a game with Class AAA Las Vegas back in April. He suffered a non-displaced fracture of the first metatarsal in his left foot. The prize of the R.A. Dickey trade has not played in a game since.

"It's too bad that he lost the time that he's lost," Alderson said, "but he may be the kind of player who can overcome that quickly."

After some Gulf Coast League games, d'Arnaud is expected to continue his climb back in Binghamton N.Y. or Las Vegas. …
