Tick Tock Manager's Bail Is Contested

Article excerpt

The state attorney general will ask a judge today to revoke the former Tick Tock Diner manager's bail for allegedly violating conditions of his release while awaiting trial on charges that he plotted to have his boss tortured and killed.

Georgios Spyropoulos, 45, of Clifton was arrested on April 9 and was initially held in Passaic County Jail on $1 million bail. He posted bail May 21, after bail was reduced to $600,000. Under terms and conditions of the reduced bail, Spyropoulos was to be kept under house arrest and wear an ankle monitor while awaiting further court appearances.

To make bail, Spyropoulos put up property worth $400,000 as collateral, with the remaining $200,000 covered by a bail firm, according to county officials.

Spyropoulos has pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and unlawful possession of a weapon. The conspiracy and attempted murder charges each carry a sentence of 10 to 20 years in state prison and a fine of up to $200,000.

The former diner manager has pleaded not guilty to charges he attempted to hire a hit man to kill his uncle by marriage, Sgourdos, 57, of Clifton, who co-owns both the Tick Tock Diner in Manhattan and the Tick Tock Diner on Route 3 in Clifton. …
