Jets Promote Wayne's Pantale

FLORHAM PARK -- For some families, the conversation can be awkward on this particular day.

But the Pantale family almost certainly won't be at a loss for words when they gather around the table for Thanksgiving dinner today.

The Jets promoted tight end Chris Pantale from their practice squad to their active roster Wednesday. The rookie, a former Wayne Valley standout, is one step closer to appearing in a regular- season NFL game for the first time.

A smiling Pantale said, "It's a nice conversation [starter]. ... It's special because I'll get to celebrate with my whole family."

Pantale's immediate family consists of his father, William; his mother, Patricia; and his sisters, Alana and Olivia. Alana is a senior at the University of Delaware and Olivia is a student at Wayne Valley.

"My family is real proud of me," he added. "They've kept faith in me the whole time and I couldn't have done it without my family and my support staff. All the credit goes to them. I'm thankful and I'm blessed."

Pantale had 98 receptions during his career at Boston College, but went undrafted in the spring. The Jets signed him and he lasted until after the preseason finale, finishing with three receptions for 29 yards in limited offensive duty. He was cut, but soon re- signed to the team's practice squad after clearing waivers. He was on the practice squad until now.

He said general manager John Idzik called Tuesday afternoon to give him the good news.

"I was jacked up," he said.

The Jets put veteran tight end Konrad Reuland, an excellent blocker, on injured reserve last week after he tore his ACL in the loss at Buffalo.
