Stabbing suspect found dead A 36-year-old Paterson man was found dead in an apparent suicide on Thursday morning at an Elmwood Park motel hours after authorities say he tried to kill his ex- girlfriend at her home on Madison Avenue.

Manuel Olivo Morillo of 17th Avenue allegedly stabbed the 21- year-old woman numerous times about 7:30 a.m. before a neighbor intervened, grabbing him and pushing him away from her, said a news release issued by Capt. Heriberto Rodriguez of the Paterson Police Department.

Authorities said the woman was taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, where she was in critical but stable condition.

A description of Morillo was sent out on police radio, Rodriguez said. At 11 a.m., Paterson police received a call from Elmwood Park police that Morillo was found dead in a room at the Red Carpet Inn on Route 46, Rodriguez said.

"Cause of death is an apparent hanging," said the news release.
