Here are Super Bowl-related events planned in North Jersey:


The Maywood school district will be participating in the Souper Bowl of Caring, a national event that uses Super Bowl weekend to mobilize youth to fight hunger and poverty in their communities. The district will be collecting canned, boxed or bagged food on the days preceding the Super Bowl on Feb. 2. The food will be donated directly to families in Maywood.


A weeklong celebration was organized by the Chamber of Commerce with involvement from various other village organizations. It features family-oriented events such as waterside bonfires, chili cook-offs, live music and discounts, designed to attract out-of- town visitors:

* Ridgewood Library, 125 N. Maple Ave., movies, trivia games, arts and crafts classes.

* The YMCA, 112 Oak St., restaurant tastings, live music on Sunday

* Former Bank of America building, East Ridgewood Avenue, the Declan Power Band, Jan. 31; video and virtual reality games, pingpong, treasure hunt, food, Feb. 1.

* Graydon Park, ice skating, snowshoeing and hiking, bonfires by the pool and chili cook-off, Feb. 1.

Jersey City

* Hotel parties. The Denver Broncos will be staying at the Hyatt Regency in Jersey City, and the Seattle Seahawks will stay at the Westin. The city plans to throw parties at both hotels when the teams arrive on Sunday, and both parties will be open to the public. Exact times are not known yet.

* The Super Bowl Kickoff Spectacular. A concert with bands including The Fray, the Goo Goo Dolls and Daughtry, plus fireworks. The show starts at 7 p.m. Monday at Liberty State Park, 200 Morris Pesin Drive.

* Jersey City Football Fashion Week. A series of events involving football-inspired fashion. Proceeds go to local charities. Events include:

6 p.m. today: Kickoff with designers, 2014 Miss New Jersey and 2014 Miss Teen New Jersey. Boys & Girls Clubs of Hudson County, 123 Jefferson St., Hoboken

6 p.m. Friday: Fashion show, possibly including appearances and clothes designed by a number of current and former professional athletes. …
