MAHWAH - Teaneck holds the record for the most Bergen County boys basketball titles, and now the school known as "The Castle on the Hill" owns the record for the most consecutive crowns.

Teaneck won its record-setting fourth consecutive Bergen Jamboree title and 12th overall with a 59-52 victory over Don Bosco in the 58th final on Thursday night at Ramapo College.

Facing the pressure to make Jamboree history, the Highwaymen survived in the Bradley Center despite hoisting at least a dozen ill- advised shots, a handful of which went swish.

"I guess the crowd, the intensity, the pressure of the game just got to us," admitted senior guard Corrie Brown.

"We got outcoached at times, we got outplayed at times, we got out-toughed at times, we got out-hustled at times, and we still found a way to fight through it all and win the game," said Teaneck coach Jerome Smart.

Teaneck (24-2) extended its winning streak to 22 with defense and by making difficult shots. The Highwaymen held the Ironmen to nine fourth-quarter points, and held them scoreless over the final 2:23.

A freshman point guard provided the pivotal free throws that put Teaneck in control. Leondre Washington made both ends of a one-and- one with 23.8 seconds remaining to give the Highwaymen a 57-52 lead.

"There was no question," Washington said of making the free throws. "We do this in practice, we practice situations where we're down one or down two, so we have to make free throws."

Teaneck made two critical baskets in the fourth after Don Bosco had pulled within 49-48 on a driving banker by George Washington- bound senior guard Paul Jorgensen. Highwaymen senior forward Myles McLeod, not known as an outside shooter, stroked a 19-footer from the left corner, and Washington scored on a stop-and-go drive.

Don Bosco's defense was exceptional and almost completely shut down Teaneck's bread-and-butter: transition baskets. …
