Deadline for Razing Roberts Stadium May 1 ; Parks Board Accepts Bids, to Be Opened Sept. 5

The city's deadline for completion of the Roberts Stadium demolition project is May 1, although weather patterns will determine the precise schedule. Officials say the demolition will involve not just razing the 56-year-old building, but also refilling the site and preparing it to become Roberts Park.

"Depending on how spring comes in and getting the sod to settle, the grass and establish the site, it may go into late spring," City- County Building Authority Director Dave Rector said.

Bid specifications for the demolition were approved Wednesday by the Evansville Board of Park Commissioners and will be advertised today and Wednesday. Bids are to be opened on Sept. 5.

A contract is to be awarded within 60 days of the bid opening.

An auction of Roberts Stadium's sports and kitchen facilities and other remaining items brought about $246,000. That money is to be used on some of the demolition project's cost, according to city officials.

In other business Wednesday, the Parks Board approved two change orders on a contract awarded earlier for repairs to the James Bethel Gresham home on Wedeking Avenue, near Garvin Park. …
