Schenk in Good Position at Amateur ; Vincennes Native Wins in Match Play

CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE, Colo. - Vincenne's Adam Schenk moved into the round of 32 at the U.S. Amateur Golf Championships on Wednesday and may now even have a favorable draw to the semifinal rounds of match play. That's because Devon Purser, Schenk's opponent in today's round of 32 match, upset fourth-seeded Sebastian Vazquez of Mexico 4-3 on Wednesday. A rising junior at Purdue, Schenk is seeded No. 29 after his 141 total in two rounds of stroke play. Purser is No. 61 after a 143 total during the two rounds that were played on Monday and Tuesday.

The highest-seeded player remaining in Schenk's bracket through the quarterfinals is 20th-seeded Ricardo Gouveia of Portugal.

Another upset victim was Jordan Spieth of Dallas, No. 3 in the world amateur rankings. He lost his opening match to Belgium's Thomas Peters, who finished 1 up.

There are still plenty of favorites left in the field, however.

University of Alabama golfers Justin Thomas and Bobby Wyatt each advanced with dominant wins. …
