Dullahan Edges Game on Dude in Pacific

DEL MAR, Calif. - Dullahan overcame 6-5 favorite Game On Dude in the stretch to win the $1 million Pacific Classic at Del Mar by a half-length Sunday, becoming the fourth 3-year-old to win the race. Ridden by Joel Rosario, Dullahan ran 1 1/4 miles on the synthetic Polytrack in a track-record 1:59.54 and paid $12.60, $5.20 and $3.40 while taking on older horses for the first time.

Game On Dude returned $3.20 and $2.40 for trainer Bob Baffert, while two-time winner Richard's Kid was another 2 3/4 lengths back in third and paid $3 to show.

Chantal Sutherland was aboard Game On Dude and she dropped her left rein late in the race after taking the lead approaching the stretch turn while trying to become the second female jockey to win the race. Baffert's other entry, Jaycito, was seventh. He won three other races on the card, including the $250,000 Pat O'Brien Stakes.

Dullahan's only other Grade 1 wins were in the Blue Grass and Breeders' Futurity, both on Polytrack. …
