Metcalf, Mount Carmel Survive ; MOUNT CARMEL 28, BOONVILLE 21 QB Scores Winning Touchdown

BOONVILLE, Ind. - A year ago, Reece Metcalf was a sophomore who ran the Mount Carmel scout team. This year, he's become the top passer in the Big Eight Conference. On Friday night, the lefty completed 21 of 30 passes for 309 yards and three scores, leaving him just shy of 2,000 passing yards for the season. He also ran for the winning touchdown with 3:50 to play as the Golden Aces beat Boonville 28-21.

"These games are a ton of fun," Metcalf said. "We worked a lot over the summer, and now it is paying off. I know I can throw it out there and my receivers will make a big play. They came up big tonight."

Mount Carmel threw the ball only grudgingly last season. But coach Darren Peach didn't have a second thought about revamping his offense for Metcalf this year.

"When you have a stud, you have to let him go out there and make plays," said Peach. "That's what he did tonight."

Perhaps the biggest pass Metcalf threw only went about 3 yards in the air. …
