Newburgh, Ind. Fraz W. Vance Jr," 87, of Newburgh, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. He was born September 5, 1925, in Hopkinsville, Ky.

He was a letter carrier for the United States Post Office, retiring in 1987 after 32 years. Frazier served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Otis Stone Post #354. He worked at Victoria National Golf Club for 14 years and was honored by having Frazier's Bar named after him. He was an avid golfer who trail blazed racial integration on golf courses in the Midwest, including Evansville. He began as a caddie in Hopkinsville, Ky., and eventually became a top competitor in the Courier City Golf Tournament. Although he had no children of his own, he was a mentor to many young people, introducing them to the game of golf. He said, "Golf changed my life and opened doors for me."

Frazier was preceded in death by his wife, Marian E. Vance, in 2012; and his parents. …
