A Spectacular Tour ; Winter Jam 2013 Comes to Evansville's Ford Center

Sold out tour dates- back-to-back hits - eight Grammy nominations - millions of albums sold TobyMac's music has been heard around the world. It's been in films such as "Hancock" and "Transporter 2," the CBS series "CSI New York" and as background music on Fox Sports, the NFL network, WWE and the Golf Channel. That's in addition to a rigorous touring schedule. He is returning to Evansville next Thursday to headline for the wildly successful Christian music concert tour, Winter Jam 2013 Tour Spectacular, at the Ford Center in Evansville.

TobyMac, at age 48, has been enjoying critical acclaim for more than two decades.

His suburban Virginia upbringing was uneventful: "Mom dragged us to church, but it didn't really take until I was 13," he said in a recent telephone interview. "I attended a summer camp youth ministry, and I decided to pursue faith in God.

"Music and me (got together) at a young age, too, 15 or 16. I began writing lyrics for other people's music."

He said he was attracted to rap/hip hop music: "There's something about the lyrical content, the rhyme and lyric style was fresh (at that time). I love the voice of the street good times music."

As a Christian, TobyMac had specific messages he wanted to impart: "I wanted to say what was on my heart, what I was experiencing I love the music and the writing because it is fun to get into what I can say with it."

TobyMac spent more than a decade (1987-2000) with the award- winning Christian band, dcTalk. But, "after five CDs we decided it was time to climb new mountains a short break turned into a whole new career."

TobyMac and the Diverse City Band organized in 2001 and have been drawing crowds ever since.

Evansville Vanderburgh School Corp. elementary teacher Lisa Trulove of Newburgh said she will be taking her teenage daughters, Emily and Baileigh, to Winter Jam - again -this year.

"TobyMac was the first concert that I took the girls to see, as he is a favorite of mine, and I wanted them to experience it! …
