Obama's Policies Not about Guns, but about Controlling People ; COMMUNITY COMMENT

Article excerpt

I have been a registered Democrat for most of my life and that would be a conservative Democrat, not the liberal version. I have served as a county commissioner and served on numerous county boards over the years. But the current administration has made me an independent voter. I was watching the news the day that President Obama was shamelessly parading these children on TV trying to promote his 23 executive orders that he and the vice president have put together. I have never seen such a "sinister" use of children for political reasons in my life. Giving high fives to the kids on national television, "really Mr. President." I am convinced that there is no end to what this administration will do to achieve their agenda.

The President has clearly over reached his authority with this latest power grab. His administration is trying to supersede the Constitution of the United States of American. We have executive, legislative and judicial branches of government for a reason - to provide checks and balances in our system. That system has worked well for us for over 230-some-odd years now.

His 23 executive orders do absolutely nothing to address the issues at hand and everything to disarm the law abiding citizens of America and destroy the 2nd Amendment. The 4th Amendment provides a reasonable expectation of privacy and the executive orders would disperse with that too. Why should law-abiding citizens give up their Constitutional rights because some "lunatic" with a gun in his hand wants to do evil? That is not addressing the issue of mental illness and pharmaceutical abuse in this country.

In the president's 23 executive orders, they want to ban any long rifle weapon with a 10-round clip or more. Fewer than 100 people are killed with that type of weapon on an annual basis according to MotherJones.com. In 2011 there were 496 killed with hammers, 650 with knives, 30,000 in automobiles, and 195,000 with medical errors. Anyone calling for a total recall on doctors or automobiles? I think not.

These 23 executive orders are so invasive that every red-blooded American in the United States should be shouting from their rooftops in disgust. …
