UE Survey Seeks Suggestions ; Aces Look for Answers to Sagging Attendance

Those within the University of Evansville's athletic department want the Aces to solidify their status as this city's team. "In order to do that, we have to know what Evansville wants," said Brooke Robinson, the school's second-year director of ticketing services and athletic events.

As men's basketball attendance dips - the 4,463 fans per game last season at the Ford Center were the lowest since Robert Stadium opened in 1956 - the Aces' support staff is searching for a reason.

Those answers might be found in results gathered from a survey launched on GoPurpleAces.com. It gauges everything from how often fans attended during the 2012-13 season to which promotions they enjoyed.

"We take the opinions and the feedback we get to heart," Robinson said. "We do want to try to make it the best experience we can. Obviously, we can't achieve every single suggestion, so we try to find the overarching themes we see and go from there."

Season ticket holders got first crack at the survey, which is now open to the public for one more week. Others can fill it out anonymously or use their name to be entered into a draw for a $50 bookstore gift certificate.

Athletic director John Stanley noted there were several hundred responses to a similar survey in 2012, following Evansville's first season in the Ford Center. He said it's on pace to return similar results this year.

"We want our fans to have an enjoyable experience," Stanley said. "That can happen in any number of ways that can range from the entertainment to the experience from the time they walk in the door to the time they walk out. Did they have fun, and do they want to come back?"

More than any time in the past decade, it seems fans aren't returning. Despite 21 wins in a 36-game season, the most Evansville ever had played in one year, attendance dropped an average 672 per game from year one to year two at the Ford Center. …
