Evansville, Ind. Bettye Jane (McGowan) Evans, 89, of Evansville, passed away Monday, June 24, 2013, at Little Sisters of the Poor. She was born in Evansville, April 12, 1924, to Edward and Mildred S. (Bush) McGowan.

Bettye formally was a secretary at the Evansville Ship Yards and Servel, Inc. She was a member of St. Benedict Cathedral, where she was a Eucharistic Minister and a member and treasurer of the Candle Lighters. She was formally a member of Central Turners Auxiliary.

Bettye was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Evans, in 1999; and son, James Allen Evans, in 1997.

She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Levell (Jim) and Mary Merrill (Dennis); sons, Mike Evans (Cindy), Bill Evans (Carol) and David Evans (Rosanna), all of Evansville; daughter-in-law, Joan Evans, of Evansville; grandchildren, Alissa Moore, Amanda Wolfe, Patrick and Michael Levell, Fred, Jarod and Matthew Evans, Emily Schmitt, Allyson Evans, Katie Evans, Crystal McIntosh, Angela Skelton and Olivia Harpole; and 15 great-grandchildren. …
