Trey Lyles drew gasps with a rousing tip-in slam early in the third quarter and hung on the rim after a dunk later in the period for emphasis on Saturday night in the Tri-State Ortho/Bosse Winter Classic. Far from a one-trick pony, Lyles showed his versatility by hitting a couple of 3-pointers and dribbling with dexterity, never mind his 6-foot-10, 250-pound frame.

He showed why he might make University of Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari very happy next season, finishing with 26 points to lead Indianapolis Arsenal Tech to an 85- 47 victory over North.

"He has a little of a Jamal Mashburn look to him," said Huskies coach Scot Bunnell, referring to the former UK standout. "From everything I've heard, he's a good kid."

The Titans are 6-1 and ranked 15th in the USA Today Super 25 poll.

"They are very talented, no question," Bunnell said. "They seemed really in tune with what they wanted to do. Sometimes really talented teams can be sloppy doing certain things."

He said North needs to do a better job blocking out under the boards, but playing a game like this will help them down the road.

"It's a good learning experience," Bunnell said.

C. J. Hedgepeth, a 6-1 sophomore, led the Huskies (2-1) with 12 points. Robert West had 11.

"(Lyles) is real good," Hedgepeth said. "He deserves to be one of the top players. I hope to be up there some day."

Lyles is regarded as one of the top 10 seniors in the nation by several scouting services.

"He's one of the best all-around big men," Hedgepeth said. "We just need to get better and work hard.

We have to execute offensively and defensively and go after it and play like we should as a team. …
