Museum gala

The newly-designed and enlarged Evansville Museum hosted its first gala in its new space. Star Wars was the theme for the evening, based on the capital campaign, Reaching for the Stars. Surrounded by aliens are (from left) George and daughter Skylar Day.

Taste of History

The Evansville African American Museum will present its third annual "Taste of History" dinner theater Saturday at 7 p.m. with an interactive production called "A Return to Black Hollywood" that will celebrate many black actors and actresses of the segregation era who are seldom seen today, but who, at the time, were pioneers who paved the way for later stars. Produced and written by Kelley Coures, the production will feature Dr. Mureena Turnquest-Wells, Pastor Adrian Brooks, Judge Rich D' Amour and his wife Holly and Harold and Frankye Calloway, Sabrina Stewart-Thomas, Rabbi Gary Mazo, Scott Wylie and Tim Black. They will tell the stories of those historical characters and then view clips of the actors' work on the silver screen. Dinner is $25 for members, $30 for nonmembers at the Eykamp Auditorium at the University of Evansville. To make a reservation call the museum at 812-426-1891. UE Founders Day

Ridgway Center, Eykamp Hall, was the setting for the 160th University of the Evansville Founders Day Celebration. Awards included: Distinguished Alumnus, John David Lutz; Young Alumnus: Jamey Carroll; Edie Bates Volunteer Service Award, Linda and Keith Phillips; and Samuel Orr Honorary Alumna, Patricia Bateman.
