YWCA pay rally needs strong show of red

On April 8, the YWCA is spearheading the local effort to support equal pay for women by asking supporters to wear red. Also, a rally is planned at 1 p.m. at the YWCA.

The date represents how far into 2014 plus all 2013 that women must work to earn what men earned in 2013. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, median earnings for U.S. women working full time were 77 percent of U.S. men's median earnings - a gap of 23 percent.

According to the local YWCA, in Southern Indiana's 8th District women earn 73 percent of what men earn.

The deadline for students to enroll in regular credit classes for the summer semester at Henderson Community College is May 19. Summer classes begin May 27.

Low-cost spay/neuter clinic has slots available

Henderson rescue group Pay It Forward Animal Welfare Network is accepting Dr. reservations for its April low-cost spay-neuter clinic.

The April 9 clinic is offered in conjunction with Vanderburgh Humane Society to pet owners of any income level and regardless of where the pet was adopted.

The deadline to register is Friday.

The cost is $65 for female dogs and $55 for male dogs. Dogs that weigh more than 100 pounds are $25 extra. Female cats are $45, while male cats are $30. Vaccines are $11 each.

The fee for feral cats in humane traps is the same as for tame cats, but the procedure also will include vaccines, rabies treatment and ear tipping.
