Felon Faces Enhanced Case after Chase

A man arrested after reportedly pointing a gun at an Evansville Police Department officer during a chase has prior murder and gun- related convictions in another state, according to prosecutors. Cornelius Ratliff, 29, of 611 E. Gum St., appeared in Vanderburgh County Circuit Court on Friday and was formally charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, a class B felony; intimidation with a weapon, a class C felony; pointing a loaded firearm, a class D felony; and resisting law enforcement, a class D felony.

The prosecutor's office also filed habitual offender sentence enhancements that could add more time to his sentences if he is convicted. Those enhancements charged Ratliff had at least two unrelated felony convictions.

Vanderburgh County Prosecutor Nicholas Hermann said Ratliff's convictions included felon in possession of a firearm charges from 2010 and 2011, as well as a murder conviction.

Ratliff was released from prison on April 4, 2010, after a serving a sentence for a second-degree murder conviction from Shelby County, Tenn. …
