Donate blood, save a life Monday at Red Cross drive

The Southwest Indiana Chapter of the American Red Cross will conduct a Life Saving Partners Blood Drive 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at the Red Cross Center, 29 S. Stockwell Road.

Donors will receive a Red Cross T-shirt and refreshments provided by Buffalo Wild Wings, Smiling Moose Deli and Fresh Market.

The Red Cross provides blood to 19 area hospitals and one unit can save as many as three lives.

NEWBURGH

Sample wine, listen to some jazz at festival

The Ninth Annual Newburgh Wine, Art and Jazz Festival gets underway at noon Saturday at the Old Lock & Dam Park and continues until 9 p.m. The event will be held rain or shine.

As many as 12 wineries will offer a taste of their wines and purchases. Bill Woerz returns this year with his wine education classes. At 1 p.m. the topic is "Bordeaux De-Constructed" and at 3 p.m. the topic is "The Curious Case of the Clape."

Five artist booths will be mingled in with the food and wine offerings. The Monte Skelton Ensemble, Barbara Santora & Jazzin', Honey Roy Jazz and The Bob Minnette Ensemble will perform during the course of the afternoon.

EVANSVILLE

Go on a big adventure at Wesselman Woods event

Big Adventure Day is planned for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Wesselman Woods Nature Center & Preserve, 551 N. Boeke Road.

Wesselman Nature Society will present interactive demonstrations on archery, knot tying, geocaching, outdoor cooking, maple tapping, hiking, fly tying and casting, Leave No Trace ethics, camp-fire starting and more. Admission is $2 per person (ages 3 and older), with nature society admitted free.

Because of damage from last week's severe thunderstorm, visitors are asked to use the Pond Gate entrance.
