Chris Caldwell Named Knox Finance Director

Knoxville -- Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett today announced that Chris Caldwell is now the county's official finance director.

Caldwell, who has worked for the county for more than a decade, has held the position in the interim since April.

He replaces Burton Webb who was fired in the spring after officials discovered that the former developer had been indicted on a theft charge in Kentucky with a warrant issued for his arrest.

Since taking over the office, Caldwell has helped the mayor oversee a $680 million annual spending plan and worked his way through this year's budget process. He has also served on the county's pension board and is a regular now at county audit committee meetings.

"Chris has done an outstanding job as interim finance director and has proven that he is fully capable of serving in that position on a permanent basis," the mayor said in a released statement. "His work during the budget process, combined with the amount of respect he has earned from commissioners, employees in his own department and other financial professionals give me great confidence in this decision."

Caldwell, who will earn roughly $120,000 annually, said he "appreciates the confidence that the mayor has given me. …
