A PUB described as 'a lynchpin of the local community' has been voted by beer lovers as the best in Greater Manchester.

The Baum, in Rochdale town centre, has been named Greater Manchester Pub of the Year by the Campaign for Real Ale.

The pub, which opened 30 years ago on Todd Lane, is run by husband and wife Simon and Heidi Crompton.

Simon, who started working at the pub in 1993 and began running it seven years ago, dedicated the award to his team of 12 staff.

He said: "We are all very, very pleased. The award is for our whole team who are the key to the pub's success.

SS "They are all trained in the cellar and are all very conscientious about knowing about the beers so they can advise our customers. 'This fantastic pub... lynchpin the "To win this award is just great, everyone of us is smiling."

The Baum always has at least one beer from a local brewery on tap and ingredients for the bar menu come from local suppliers. …
