How Roy's Boys Did at Wembley ; Stuart Mathieson Gives His Marks out of 10 for the City and United Players in Action forEngland in Their World Cup Qualifier against Ukraine

JOE HART HE was a spectator against Moldova last Friday night and he could be no more than that when Ukraine scored their opener at Wembley.

You couldn't blame the Blues and England No.1 for Konoplianka's screamer. Shilton, Clemence, Corrigan, Stepney, Bailey could have all been on the line and they wouldn't have stopped it.

Hart was scrambling early on when he was caught out by a deflected cross and had to be on his toes much more than he did in Moldova.

He was alive enough to punch away a dangerous set piece in the dying seconds. 6 JOLEON LESCOTT REUNITED with his old Everton colleague Phil Jagielka, who was in for the injured John Terry, and it started off as a comfortable pairing.

Lescott was the dominant aerial figure in the first half hour or more at Wembley and he hacked and headed everything away that came near him.

But the City central defender went and ruined all his good work with a loose give-away ball that crucially led to Ukraine's goal.

His distribution had been so safe and simple but then he sloppily gave away possession to an opponent who was on the floor!

On the plus side, Lescott didn't let the error affect him and though he was booked in the second half due to a bit of arm wrestling, his error for the goal was his only real blemish. Would have been an 8/10 but for that careless moment.

7 JAMES MILNER HAS been Fabio Capello's and now Roy Hodgson's 'go to' performer on the right hand flank.

Neither picked him for the flashy, edge-of-your-seat wing play offered by the likes of Oxlade-Chamberlain on the opposite flank.

But both knew that what you get from the Yorkshireman is a good honest shift.

If he had a bit more pace he could have hurt Ukraine even more.

But Milner's biggest asset is the security he offers his right back partner to get forward.

Glen Johnson relishes the protection Milner gives him when he leaves his post - something Arsenal's raw winger Alex Oxlade- Chamberlain doesn't offer his full-back.

He could learn a lot from Milner. 6 TOM CLEVERLEY WILL be criticised for missing that open goal and possibly a second wayward finish but England should be encouraged that they have an inexperienced player playing in an alien advanced role at senior level who was able to get into those positions. …
