AMAN and dog had to be rescued by firefighters after they fell through floorboards of a house into a disused cellar.

David Whittaker, 51, from Abbey Hey, Gorton, had been out walking his friend Sarah Wisby's two dogs when the accident happened.

As he entered her house on Milton Mount, Gorton, the wooden flooring suddenly gave way and both he and one of the dogs - a bitch called Bee Bop - plunged several feet into the cellar.

With nobody else in the property and unable to climb out, David began to frantically call for help.

Fortunately, a neighbour heard his cries and the fire service and paramedics were called to the scene.

After a short rescue operation David and Bee Bop were freed.

David said: "I opened the front door to bring the two dogs home.

"I went to open the door to the hall and the floor just collapsed beneath me and I fell. …
