Laundry Fugitive Swoop ; Shop Raided in Search for Two Murder Suspects Armed Officers Go in with Blast Shields

ARMED police swooped on a laundry shop as part of the hunt for fugitive murder suspects Dale Cregan and Anthony Wilkinson.

Masked firearms officers carrying semi-automatic machine guns and blast shields surrounded the business in Paddock Court, Failsworth, near Oldham.

An angle-grinder was used to cut through a padlock before metal roller-shutters were prised open with a crowbar.

No-one was arrested. The raid was carried out by officers hunting the pair - who are prime suspects in the gun and grenade murder of 46-year-old David Short.

Mr Cregan, 29 is also wanted in connection with the death of Mr Short's son Mark, 23, who died after being shot in the neck in the Cotton Tree Inn, Droylsden, in May.

Police confirmed the raid, the lates st in a series of similar operations, was part of the ongoing inquiry.

Residents told how they were woken at 10am yesterday to the sounds of metal cutting.

One resident, who asked not to be named, said: "There was a lot of police there and they used the angle-grinder to get a lock off before going in. …
