A TEENAGE cancer sufferer spread festive cheer among her fellow patients - by persuading businesses to donate Christmas presents to them.

Katie Thorburn, 15, from Stockport, decided she wanted to do something special for other youngsters who might have to spend December 25 on ward 84 at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.

She managed to get a selection of gifts donated by companies, including Manchester United and City, clothing retailer Jack Wills, Early Learning Centre, and sweet firm Swizzles. They collected Pounds 1,300 in a week, which Katie used to buy presents that were needed on the ward.

Presents were also donated by Slimming World groups in Heaton Norris and Marple and by the Top Hat Tappers, a ladies tap class run by Katie's aunt Sarah.

Katie, who was pictured with City captain Vincent Kompany when he visited the children's hospital with the Premier League trophy, said: "As a patient myself on ward 84 I know how difficult it can be being in hospital especially at this time of year, so I wanted to do something special for my fellow patients to spread some festive cheer. …
