FROM the mill to the shopping mall - that is the theme of a new art show of works depicting Manchester's past and present.

LS Lowry's 'Mill at Moston' sits alongside 'Primark and Debenhams' by another Salford artist, Stephen Campbell at the Winter Show of Clark Art Gallery, Hale.

While Lowry's 1950 oil painting shows a semi-rural scene of three figures plodding past his signature smoking chimney, Campbell's work, made this year, depicts Manchester as a modern metropolis.

They are among more than 100 works by 20 northern artists on sale at the show - which opened this week.

'Man Looking Out to Sea', a 1963 oil painting, and a pencil drawing from 1958 called 'On the Canongate Edinburgh' are the other Lowrys at the show.

Alongside three Lowrys, artists on show include Macclesfield- based Ben Kelly with his lush paintings of his home town, Dukinfield- born Simeon Stafford with works including 'Fair at Manchester', and Reg Gardner, from Prestwich, with two oil paintings of the northwest. …
