Giants Showing Drive on the Road to Glory ; Jeff Jones Believes His Men Are Close to Away Success, Reports Anthony Jepson

UPBEAT Jeff Jones believes Manchester Giants are just a small step from claiming their first away win of the season.

The resurrected club's three BBL wins so far have all come at their Wright Robinson HQ.

But they haven't found league success on the road in four times of asking.

With the margin of defeat on their last trip - to Durham on Sunday - an agonisingly narrow four points, Jones believes minor improvements will see his team finally 'get over the hump'.

However, with another visit to the north east tonight to face champions Newcastle, the veteran coach acknowledges their immediate task couldn't be much more testing.

"It will be an extremely tough game," he said. "But we have to make sure we keep working to improve.

"On the road we are trying to find a way to win and it will be extremely difficult in Newcastle, but I'm actually quite pleased with how competitive we have been.

"If I can get eight guys healthy and on the same page we can do that."

Jones highlights the improving contribution of Mancunian guard Stefan Gill as a factor that will be vital to the Giants' hopes.

"Stef led by example and vocally at Durham and that is a step in the right direction from him," he added. …
